Open letter to Ted Rogers: RE Taking over the Industry

Since the release of the iPhone price plans, Rogers and it’s CEO Ted Rogers have been taking quite a bit of heat from the masses who believe they are getting screwed by ‘the man’.

While I fully believe that the options and price points for the iPhone are quite unfair (3 Year Contract Only, Call Display Not Standard, Evenings Start at 9pm, etc, etc), this post is not really about the iPhone or it’s plans, it is more about Ted’s greed and his quest to take over the Telecommunications Industry in Canada. Creating a real life Idiocracy

For years, his comedic creations have been making us laugh, but Mike Judge may have unknowingly generated a unnervingly realistic view of our future in the 2006 movie Idiocracy. I realized after reading this article that we are much closer to achieving this scenario than I care to admit and I just wanted to drop out of the human race.

Open letter to the TV/Film industry

You threaten and sue us. You call us pirates and thieves. You do everything in your power to blame the crumbling state of your industry on the internet and new technologies, when it’s your archaic business models and the extortion level pay grades you have implemented that are doing the damage.

It is about time that you loosen your silk tie, put your Armani suit jacket on the back of your chair, and decide how you are going to deal with the REAL pirates… Actors.

HaXors, Erotica and my week in hell.

It has been awhile since I posted, too long in fact. That I am actually posting anything today is nothing short of a miracle, it has been one hell of a week.

Macbook Airhead; Bad Steve.

I woke up this morning and I felt like a kid on Christmas. It is Macworld Tuesday and I had a bounce in my step. I had heard all the rumors about what was to be announced, and as usual, I ignored them all (Though I was REALLY hoping for a tablet). I figured they would release an ultra-portable unit, but I had assumed that they would do a proper job of it, after all, it’s Apple!

Micro$oft and the longhorn of Vista

When comes to Microsoft products, my disdain and pure hatred for the company are well known (And echoed around the world by many users). I still have trouble understanding how such a problematic OS was able to rise to the top, and remain there for so long. What I have even more trouble understanding is how, after 7 years of development, Microsoft released a new OS that was even worse than before! Cancel or Allow?

Music Tax my ass

Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) recently helped Saul Williams release his album online without the use of a major label. The idea was fairly brilliant in that they gave away the album, but in a lower quality, then charged $5 for a higher quality download. He seemed surprised, however, when roughly 28,000 people (Out of roughly 155,000) paid for the download.

The reasons I hate Leopard

Leading up to it’s release, Leopard (Mac OS X, 10.5) was not seen as a huge upgrade like some of the previous releases, but it did contain some cool new features. While Apple touted over 300 new features, upgrades like Path Bar and the New Airport Menu are hardly features to be crowing about. While many have upgraded smooth and seamlessly, some have downgraded to 10.4 or have stuck with the issues, hoping Apple will release an update to ease their woes. So why should anybody upgrade to the new system? Good question!

The ghosts in the machine

I know we have all run into the Ghost in the machine, the inexplainable issues that arise on our computers and other technological devices that make us want to scream and pull our hair out.

I am currently at work, copying hundreds of GB of files off our Fibre Channel SAN so it can be reformatted and re-setup from scratch. So I start a copy, says its going to take 5 hours. 5 hours later, I check and it says it will be another 3 minutes, so I check again in 3 minutes and the whole damn thing has started over, all by itself!!!!

I stopped the re-copy, and it seemed to keep a bunch of what was already copied, but I still have to transfer another 40GB of data again *sigh*. Why do these things happen? Better yet, why do they have to happen on a Sunday night over the holidays when all I want to do is go home and smoke a J and eat some food? WHY!!!!!
